Huakina Homecare Services
Personal and Household Care In Your Home

Supporting You To Stay Independent At Home
As we age or face health challenges, it can become more difficult to remain independent in our homes and communities. At Huakina, we give back by providing a range of services designed to support safety, dignity, and self-sufficiency at home. These include personal care such as assistance with feeding, dressing, bathing, and showering; transport support for appointments and shopping; and help with home maintenance, including cleaning, cooking, dusting, and organising. Our aim is to ensure you or your loved ones can continue living comfortably and confidently in familiar surroundings.

Any Paatai?
How do I refer myself or a family member to receive home care support from Huakina?
Firstly, you or your whānau member must visit the GP and ask for a home care referral. They will ask some questions first before making the referral.
From here you will be contacted by a Needs Assessor who will assess you or your whānau members needs, be sure to tell them you wish to have your services provided by Huakina Development Trust. Once we have received the referral we will make contact with you.
What do you mean by Personal care?
Personal care means we help with assisting our client's personal needs, which affect their daily living, for example, assistance with showering, dressing, mobility (transfers in and out of bed) and exercises (habilitation/rehabilitation), meal preparation, meal planning and support with eating or drinking.
What do you mean by Household care?
Household care means we help to keep the home tidy and safe for our clients if they are unable to do so themselves, for example, cleaning, laundry, vacuuming, mopping and dusting designated areas, kitchen/dishes/fridge wipe out, home organisation and decluttering.
Is there an age restriction for clients?
No, there isn't. However, most of our clients are elderly, but we are open to any ages with disabilities who are in need of our support.
If I'm a relative looking after my whānau member, can they still be referred to you?
Yes, we are able to discuss with the needs assessors hiring you as a family-paid caregiver if you or your whānau member would prefer this option. Or we can allocate one of our amazing staff to take care of them as well.
What is your code of rights?
Please see the HDC website for the code of rights for health and disability service users https://www.hdc.org.nz/your-rights/the-code-and-your-rights/
